loveLife Peer Mentoring training helps 11 year olds

Having completed the loveLife Generation leadership training, 23 young people from Kingsford school (Year 11 and Year 12) undertook an intense Peer Mentoring training programme.  Each week they learnt about a different aspect of what it takes to become an effective peer mentor and befriender. They not only learnt about the skills required they practised their skills week after week on each other to develop and enhance themselves as peer mentors.
They are currently working with Year 7's (11 and 12 year olds) mentoring them every week.
This sort of relationship has proven to be extremely succesful to the mentors and their mentees. The mentors have grown in confidence with the responsibility of taking a younger person under the wing. The mentees have been able to take this opportunity of having one on one conversations with other young people to identify their needs and to work on them.
This programme has also been highly beneficial to the school in areas of behaviour and attitudes. It is really great that the older kids are able to take on such an effective leadership role within the school and act as positive  role models as fellow students. They have built a friendship with the younger kids and this want to help other students is something the current Year 7's will take with them as they move up the school
